Statement of Standard Two- Human Growth and Development
“Teachers shall understand how children and adolescents develop and learn in a variety of school, family and community contexts and provide opportunities that support their intellectual, social, emotional and physical development”. (NJPTSB, 2004, pg. 10)
Name of Artifact: Personal Philosophy
Date of Artifact: 4/25/13
Course: Education Field Experience EDUC 230-02
Rationale Statement:
My personal philosophy is a statement about what I find most important about being a teacher. It also lists my goals and anything I would like to accomplish on the right environment of education. My philosophy describes the type of lessons I would like to present to my students once I become a teacher. This artifact connects to standard two, human growth and development because it defines the importance I hold for these elements in order to provide my students the best possible education. The future of my students will be in my hands fro 365 days because even though they are not in my class all of the time, they will put in practice out of my room what they had learned in my room. This is the biggest challenge I have to support their intellectual, social and emotional development.
While I was completing this artifact, I realized that what matters for me the most had to be placed into words for the world to know what kind of educator I want to be. I had to demonstrate in this document my experience and knowledge around the years of education I have had. I realized that it is not just hard to present yourself as a professional, it is important to reflect that in the words you use to describe yourself.
In my future as a teacher my personal philosophy will be used as a reminder to myself of what I wanted to accomplish in my future. It will guide me in those moments when I might get overwhelm or frustrated because every job is difficult when we initiate it. However, my philosophy will provide me the reason why I wanted to be a teacher and what I wanted to accomplish so I can get back into that track of education I dreamed once.
