Rationale Statement
Statement of Standard Eleven- Professional Responsibility
“Teachers shall act in accordance with legal and ethical responsibilities and shall use integrity and fairness to promote the success of all students”. (NJPTSB, 2004, pg. 19)
Name of Artifact: Peer Portfolio Conferences
Date of Artifact: 5/2/13
Course: Education Field Experience EDUC 230-02
Rationale Statement:
During our peer portfolio conference we all gather together in a computer lab where we were able to share our progress in our online portfolio. During this time we had the opportunity to write down any information we liked about our classmates’ portfolios and any suggestions we had for them to improve it. This artifact connects with the professional responsibility because we were working on a project that reflect our work and it was going to be presented to others to obtain feedback. Having colleagues review my work and share their thoughts can help to improve my performance as a professional and helps me to prepare to collaborate and share with others my work.
While completing this exercise with my classmates I learned a lot about the creativity and projects that others might have. It help me to realize that just like some have different strengths others also have weakness and that in a peer group review we all can contribute to each other to help us and see the opportunities we have in our own work. This project made me realize that when we need different ideas we can count on our peers and try to have the best relationship on our work environment because it will be needed in order to learn from those who have more experience and have the strength you need or to help those that need that from you as well.
In my future as a teacher I see this exercise helping me to remember how difficult it was to show my work for the first instance, but how important was for me in order to improve my work. It will help me in my future to create similar experiences with my students and show them the importance of respect and variety of ideas we can have in a classroom.
